With the half time performance Ushering in early 2000's nostalgia and Valentine's day upon us, it's time to appreciate the real MVP.
It's a cliché but guess what, it's real. The cliché in question is that you don't know you're in the good times until they've passed. We go through our days naively avoiding that fact but sometimes life comes along and slaps us against the face, repeatedly, with a fat realization.
Now that can make you depressed as the black void creeps ever towards you. Or you can say, "Fuck, that was awesome." I chose the latter.
When Usher was killing it during the Super Bowl halftime show, singing songs I didn't know, he got to Yeah! and I was immediately transported to my high school days. I heard that song so many times back then it's become analogous with my youth. While I certainly appreciate the song (I did get up and dance/gyrate poorly from my couch) I always consider that timeframe as belonging solely to one individual.
Timbaland.
When I drive around in my scraped up VW Atlas (shoutout to Tom's tiny ass garage) listening to Sirius XM I realize just how prevalent his music was from that time in my life. He has produced some absolute bangers in his prime and as a millennial (1988) perhaps I appreciate them more than some other folks. Also, clearly, the vast majority of tracks his fingerprints are on happen to all be baby making music. Well, at least in my opinion, man.
With Valentines Day here and the nostalgia some of my contemporaries may be feeling, here's a playlist of my favorite Timbaland produced tracks that may get your oldish bones a moving in sync...
