Oddball: Week 11 Recap

We're so bad at this that we might retire. If you've been fading our picks, hopefully you have enough money to retire, too.

Oddball is our weekly NFL gambling competition where we each get $100 every weekend and try to outdo each other. The loser has to do the TB12 diet for a week. Let's see how we did in Week 11. (spoiler alert: it was not good)

Matt's Picks

I'm tempted to start off this recap with another quip like "another week, another calamity" or make some sarcastic allusion to my bank account. But I'm too sad. This weekend just wasn't very fun. Kirk and I went a combined 0-for-10 on our Oddball wagers. My Giants blew another fourth quarter lead and I've watched chess matches more exciting that his Eagles.

Let's hope the final seven weeks of the regular season bring a bit more joy and profit to our lives. Otherwise, I'm just going to redirect this website to BetterHelp.com and call it a season.

Since my individual game recaps will be short and depressing, I'll take a quick peek back at my preseason predictions and see if there's anything in there to get excited about.

AFC Playoff Picture:

This doesn't look too bad. The Chiefs and Ravens could probably still get in. The Bengals are cooked though.

This ain't too shabby either. The Commanders are absolute toast, but would anyone be surprised to see the Lions catch the fraudulent Bears? I certainly wouldn't.

AFC Over/Unders

I've already cashed the Patriots over 8.5 and the Jets under 9.5.

I lost the Colts under 7.5.

My other biggest wins will probably be Broncos over 9.5, Chiefs under 11.5, and Jaguars over 7.5.

My other biggest losses will probably be Bengals over 9.5, Titans over 5.5, and Ravens over 11.5.

NFC Over/Unders

I haven't won anything yet in the NFC.

I lost the Commanders over 9.5.

My biggest wins will probably be Rams over 9.5, Cardinals under 8.5, and Panthers over 6.5.

My other biggest losses will probably be Seahawks under 8.5, Bears under 8.5, and Falcons over 7.5.

Rams (-3.0)

Straight Up ATS (-110)

This was a frustrating loss. I feel like I had the right read. Just as I predicted, Darnold struggled and racked up four interceptions on the day. However, the Seahawks defense was good enough to keep them in it. The Rams won by 2 and failed to cover as Jason Myers missed a potential game-winning 61-yard field goal for the Seahawks as time expired. My Rams futures are happy. My Week 11 bankroll, not so much.

Bengals (+5.5)

Straight Up ATS (-108)

Trailing 10-6 at the half, things weren't looking so bad. The Bengals were covering the spread and Aaron Rodgers had left the game with a wrist injury, leaving Mason Rudolph under center. I figured I had a pretty good shot to win. Then my step father-in-law came over for an unexpected visit. He claims to be a Steelers fan but hasn't watched a game since Terry Bradshaw was the quarterback. He also loves Aaron Rodgers because of his vaccine stance. So that's fun. We get along great. Of course he sat down and started rooting loudly for the Steelers, completely oblivious to the fact that I was heavily invested in the Bengals. Taranis does not appreciate such antics, and promptly the juju flipped on its head. The second half was a debacle, the Bengals got crushed, and so did my wallet.

Moneyline Parlay (+929)

Giants & Panthers

Jameis Winston out dueled the Jordan Love/Malik Willis combo for most of the afternoon. Unfortunately, the Giants' dreadful defense gave up a backbreaking 3rd & 10 late in the fourth quarter, ultimately leading to the Packers' go-ahead score. Jameis scarfed down some crab legs and led a pretty successful two-minute drill until this happened:

My lord, what a terrible route by Jalin Hyatt. I'm super glad that Joe Schoen kept his job so that we can keep guys like this on the roster.

Bengals & Panthers

The Bengals got smacked around pretty good in the second half, so it didn't end up mattering. But I was all over that Panthers win. Haha. At one point, Carolina trailed 21-7. But Bryce Young went off for an unbelievable 448 yards and 3 touchdowns en route to an overtime victory. It would have been a lot more exciting if the Giants and Bengals hadn't crapped the bed already.

Uncle Jack would like to make it known that if I had just bet the Panthers +3.5, I would have easily made money on this game. And instead I tied it to Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston. Uncle Jack thinks I'm an idiot and he's probably right.

Sorry, we didn't realize Drake Maye was such a Sensitive Sally and was going to refuse to run in this game. He should probably grow a pair if he's going to be a real MVP contender. In any event, we're probably going to start letting our wives make these selections. They'd probably have a better shot of picking winners. We just need to find a way to do it without letting them see the FanDuel balance (or lack thereof).
